Beavers are Back

At Ecotalk, restoring nature isn’t an ambition—it’s already underway.

Our latest milestone brings beavers back to ancient woodland, in partnership with the Green Britain Foundation and leading conservation partners, with Chris Packham, our Chief Ecologist, at the heart of it.

Reintroduction Matters

The return of beavers to Britain brings wide-reaching environmental benefits. They don't just live in nature - they rebuild it. By naturally slowing the flow of water, beavers help reduce flood risk; their dams and wetlands filter and clean rivers; and the habitats they create support a rich increase in biodiversity. In turn, these restored ecosystems strengthen our resilience to a changing climate. Every month, Ecotalk customers turn their phone bills into real-world nature recovery — and if you’re not with us yet, yours could too.

Once extinct in Britain, beavers are nature's ecosystem engineers — reshaping waterways and wetlands in ways that support a rich diversity of wildlife. Now, after years of planning and preparation, they've been successfully reintroduced to Bowyers Wood. Working alongside Derek Gow — widely known as the UK's 'Beaver Guru' — a 27-acre area has been carefully assessed, enclosed, and restored to support this landmark project.

Our Beaver Homes

01Downicary

This former set of grazed fields has been transformed into a thriving mosaic of wet meadows, ponds, bogs, and marshland. Scrapes have been created, dykes restored, and old drains carefully blocked, with hedgerow planting and gentle wet woodland management now complete or well underway.

At the heart of it all is the site's clear, fast-running stream — now home to a resident beaver population that is actively shaping the water and surrounding habitat every day. Their presence is driving much of the habitat creation across the wider site, accelerating the return of a richer, more dynamic wetland ecosystem. Otters have also been spotted, with ongoing camera trap monitoring revealing just how quickly this living system is evolving.

Downicary overview

02Bowyers Wood

Within a 250-acre woodland landscape in East Sussex dating back to before the Bronze Age, beavers have been given a new home — the first time this site has heard the sound of a dam in centuries. Led on the ground by Chris Packham, the project demonstrates how working with nature can deliver real solutions to today's environmental challenges.

I've been with EcoTalk for about 6 months now and it's absolutely no different from my previous provider in terms of service. Very happy I made the switch.

Excellent! Hassle free! Better than EE! Switched from ee to eco talk who use the same lines but charge less and their profits go towards rewilding britain and i have not had a single problem with them, a breath a fresh air after all the problems i had with ee.

I love the commitment to nature and…

I love the commitment to nature and sustainability. The switch was so easy, took a couple of days to port my number across, coverage is better where I live and logging in to the website to see my account details is much simpler than it ever was with my old provider. I had some questions before making the switch and they were answered by a lovely human within a couple of hours. Really happy that I made the switch.

They are the best network

They are the best network I've ever been on. The most approachable too. Human customer service (rare these days) at first attempt!! They are a really friendly team. A breath of fresh air in these days of technological drudge and despair.

Help your natural world with Ecotalk

When my last provider told me they were putting their prices up again, I thought I’d look around, I’d only ever been with one provider, so I didn’t really know what was out there. I have to say the price per month sold me straight away, that and the fact they give me more for my money was worth a second look. Then I discovered that they actually help the world outside our doorsteps, instead of giving huge payouts to their directors and shareholders, I was like, what? They do that for our environment ! I love that even more than the money I save. I would recommend anyone to switch to Ecotalk for that alone! I can’t tell you what their customer services are like, I’ve never had to use them, but my change over was very smooth, well once the last company decided they had to say goodbye. Love the ethics, love saving money, love Ecotalk.

Switched to Ecotalk - no regrets!

Switched to EcoTalk after being with T-Mobile then EE for years. Transition was very simple and smooth to keep my old number. The price is great, signal seems to at least match what I got with EE. So far, so very good. But with a rolling month to month contract I’m not tied in even if it goes wrong. Closest I get to a match price elsewhere needed me to commit to 24mth contract, with yearly price increases.
