Beavers are Back

At Ecotalk, restoring nature isn’t an ambition—it’s already underway.

Our latest milestone brings beavers back to ancient woodland, in partnership with the Green Britain Foundation and leading conservation partners, with Chris Packham, our Chief Ecologist, at the heart of it.

Beaver

Reintroduction Matters

The return of beavers to Britain brings wide-reaching environmental benefits. They don't just live in nature - they rebuild it. By naturally slowing the flow of water, beavers help reduce flood risk; their dams and wetlands filter and clean rivers; and the habitats they create support a rich increase in biodiversity. In turn, these restored ecosystems strengthen our resilience to a changing climate. Every month, Ecotalk customers turn their phone bills into real-world nature recovery — and if you’re not with us yet, yours could too.

Once extinct in Britain, beavers are nature's ecosystem engineers — reshaping waterways and wetlands in ways that support a rich diversity of wildlife. Now, after years of planning and preparation, they've been successfully reintroduced to Bowyers Wood. Working alongside Derek Gow — widely known as the UK's 'Beaver Guru' — a 27-acre area has been carefully assessed, enclosed, and restored to support this landmark project.

Our Beaver Homes

01Downicary

This former set of grazed fields has been transformed into a thriving mosaic of wet meadows, ponds, bogs, and marshland. Scrapes have been created, dykes restored, and old drains carefully blocked, with hedgerow planting and gentle wet woodland management now complete or well underway.

At the heart of it all is the site's clear, fast-running stream — now home to a resident beaver population that is actively shaping the water and surrounding habitat every day. Their presence is driving much of the habitat creation across the wider site, accelerating the return of a richer, more dynamic wetland ecosystem. Otters have also been spotted, with ongoing camera trap monitoring revealing just how quickly this living system is evolving.

Downicary overview

02Bowyers Wood

Within a 250-acre woodland landscape in East Sussex dating back to before the Bronze Age, beavers have been given a new home — the first time this site has heard the sound of a dam in centuries. Led on the ground by Chris Packham, the project demonstrates how working with nature can deliver real solutions to today's environmental challenges.

Great customer service

I am finding Ecotalk a reliable and affordable network with good coverage and excellent customer service. I have contacted them a couple of times to upgrade or add data. Each time they have been efficient and it has been completely hassle free. Today, Yasmin, was super helpful and my data was added and my contract amended in a couple of minutes. It is the easiest mobile service I have used by a mile. So uncomplicated, a breath of fresh air in a world where service is usually a faff online, a long hold in the phone or a useless chatbot.

A green product at the lowest price with excellent customer service

I was skeptical about the low price as it was half of what I paid my previous provider but as it was endorsed by national treasure Chris Packham, I decided to give it a go. Best decision I’ve made in a long while! Excellent customer service, easy switch, great product at the lowest price. But best of all, it’s green! 💚💚💚

I've been with Ecotalk for 2 years now…

I've been with Ecotalk for 2 years now and my overall experience has been great. I've travelled abroad a few times, which I had been worried about, but it worked flawlessly. I've had a connection issue once and they sorted it out in no time (sent an email in the evening next morning it was done), so their customer service is brilliant, as well - fast and kind. And I'm supporting environmental projects by being their customer. What more could you want?

Real humans doing really good things with a good service

Paying for a good service knowing that some of the money is going to help wildlife?! This is the dream! I am ready for Eco-WiFi, Eco-food-co-ops, Eco-energy, Eco-social media 🤞 So much power in our wallets. And it’s a great service too! When I had set up issues I even got to speak to a real human being!

It was easy to switch over to Ecotalk…

It was easy to switch over to Ecotalk and I've had much better signal than my previous provider. When I wanted to alter my plan it was easy to call the customer service team and it was done quickly.

Great coverage, excellent price & service.

Highly recommended! I switched to Ecotalk for two reasons: They give great coverage - far better than my previous, well known supplier. The environmental work they help to do by donating their profits to ecological causes. Since I've been with them I haven't lost coverage once. Also transferring to them was incredibly easy, & I was given great customer service from a local help centre when I called to check that I'd done the changeover correctly.
